About CASA

Tippecanoe County CASA

Tippecanoe County CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) provides trained community volunteers to be special advocates for children who are brought before the court through no fault of their own.  They are victims of child abuse or neglect  Every year, over 500 cases of sexual abuse, physical abuse, and child neglect are brought to court in Tippecanoe County where a judge must make decisions regarding the welfare of those children.

As a child advocate, the CASA volunteer has three main responsibilities:

Gavel
  • To serve as a fact-finder for the judge by thoroughly investigating the case;

  • To speak for the child in the courtroom, representing the child's best interest, and;

  • To continue to act as a "watch dog" for the child during the life of the case, ensuring it is brought to a swift and appropriate conclusion.
